Best complete food powder in Spain: Satislent, Plenny Shake or yfood

Tres vasos de batido de comida completa sobre la encimera de madera de una cocina, junto a una cuchara con copos de avena, un limón y una jarra

If you shop in Spain, Satislent Food is the complete food powder with the most protein per meal compared with Plenny Shake (Jimmy Joy) and yfood (30 g of plant protein versus 25 g), and the cheapest of the three as a one-off purchase: €2.25 per meal (€2.02 with a subscription), with 7.7 g of fibre and 26 vitamins and minerals in 402 kcal. It is made in Madrid and used by more than 30,000 customers.

We are Satislent, so let's say it up front: we wrote this comparison. That is why we stick to label data and each brand's own store, with dates, and we also tell you where the others win: Plenny Shake has a little more fibre in almost all its flavours and less salt, and yfood is slightly cheaper on subscription.

The short answer: which one to choose depending on what you want

More protein per meal

Satislent Food: 30 g per meal, from pea, rice and hemp. Plenny Shake and yfood provide 25 g. If you track your daily protein (because you train, for example), that is 5 g more per meal.

More fibre

Plenny Shake, by a small margin: between 8.3 and 8.5 g per meal in seven of its eight flavours (the chocolate one has 7.2 g). Satislent provides 7.7 g and yfood 6.0 g. All three exceed the 6 g per 100 g the EU requires for a "high fibre" claim. How much you need per day (probably more than you eat) is in fibermaxxing: how much fibre you need.

The lowest price

  • One-off purchase: Satislent, at €2.25 per meal, versus €2.33 for yfood and €2.35 for Plenny Shake.
  • With a subscription: yfood, at €1.98, followed by Plenny Shake (€2.00) and Satislent (€2.02). There are 4 cents per meal between the cheapest and the most expensive. At that distance, what decides it is what you feel like drinking every day.

For vegans and the lactose intolerant

Satislent and Plenny Shake are 100% plant-based and lactose-free. yfood Powder uses lactose-free milk powder and milk protein: it works if you are lactose intolerant, but not if you are vegan or allergic to milk protein.

Gluten-free

Neither Satislent nor Plenny Shake is suitable for people with coeliac disease. Satislent contains oats with gluten, and Jimmy Joy warns that its oats are processed in a facility that handles gluten, so cross-contamination is unavoidable. yfood uses gluten-free oat fibre, although oats are listed among its allergens. If you have coeliac disease, always check the label of the pack you buy.

Plenny Shake ranges vary by flavour. The best figure in each row is in bold.

Ingredients: oats and gofio versus soy versus milk

All three are similar in calories, but they are made from very different ingredients.

  • Satislent Food: oats, Canarian gofio (toasted maize flour), extra virgin olive oil powder, pea, rice and hemp protein, flaxseed and medium-chain triglycerides from coconut, plus vitamins and minerals.
  • Plenny Shake: oat flour, soy flour, sunflower oil, rice flour, soy protein isolate, inulin and ground golden flaxseed, plus vitamins and minerals (chocolate flavour ingredients).
  • yfood Powder Classic Choco: lactose-free milk powder, milk protein, sunflower and rapeseed oils, defatted cocoa, chicory root fibre, coconut milk powder, gluten-free oat fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Where each one gets its protein

Satislent combines three plant proteins (pea, rice and hemp). Plenny Shake relies on soy, the most common plant protein in this kind of product. yfood uses dairy protein. All three provide a meal-sized amount of protein; the difference is whether you want it plant-based and whether you tolerate soy or milk. The comparison between plant-based and animal protein deserves an article of its own.

Fats: olive oil versus sunflower and rapeseed

We use extra virgin olive oil powder, and that gives Satislent the least total and saturated fat of the three (10 g and 1.5 g). Plenny Shake uses sunflower oil, and yfood sunflower and rapeseed, with 15 g and 19 g of fat per meal.

Sugars and salt

Satislent does not win here. Plenny Shake has fewer sugars (2.9-3.9 g versus 4 g) and much less salt (about 0.3 g versus 1.0 g). yfood is the sweetest, with 15 g of sugars per meal.

Real price per meal: one-off and subscription

Price per meal is the fair way to compare, because each bag contains a different number of meals: 12 for Satislent, 10 for Plenny Shake and around 12 for yfood (based on the price per meal the brand itself shows).

One-off Subscription Bag
Satislent Food €2.25 €2.02 €27
yfood Powder €2.33 €1.98 €27.99
Plenny Shake (Esjoy) €2.35 €2.00 €23.55

A note on Plenny Shake: on Jimmy Joy's international website the bag is listed at €21.90 (€2.19 per meal), but the brand itself says it sells in Spain through its distributor Esjoy. That is why we use the Esjoy price, which is what you pay when buying from Spain.

Prices change with promotions and bundles, so check each brand's website before buying. We will update this table every quarter.

Manufacturing and shipping in Spain

We formulate and produce Satislent Food in Madrid (Satislent S.L., health registration RGSEAA 26.018704/M), with ingredients such as Canarian gofio and extra virgin olive oil. Jimmy Joy is a Dutch brand that distributes in Spain through Esjoy, which ships from Madrid. yfood is a German brand; its website does not say where the powder is made.

What about Huel?

Huel is the best-known brand in the category, and since Danone bought it many people are looking for alternatives. We do not repeat it here because we already have a full comparison: Huel vs Satislent.
